What to do if you think you have COVID-19

Most people with COVID-19 experience a mild illness and will recover at home, and our care team can guide you online or by phone. Learn more about COVID-19 symptoms. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please go to OnCare.org, our 24/7 virtual clinic, where our care team will evaluate your symptoms and provide a care plan.

Follow the care instructions you receive from our team. Currently, M Health Fairview is testing all people showing symptoms for COVID-19. If you meet symptom criteria, you will be directed to one of our drive-up testing locations across the Twin Cities. M Health Fairview is working quickly to ramp up testing for people who are not displaying COVID-19 symptoms, but national lab supply shortages require us to continue prioritizing testing for certain groups.

If you test positive, our care team will provide you with instructions and a care plan. Plan to self-quarantine until all of the following have occurred:

  • At least 10 days have passed since the onset of your symptoms
  • Your fever has subsided for at least one full day (24 hours) without the use of fever-reducing medications
  • Other symptoms have improved or ended

Outside of an emergency, please do not visit a clinic or hospital without calling ahead. This avoids spreading COVID-19 to others.

If your symptoms worsen or you experience shortness of breath, call or message your healthcare provider or visit OnCare.org for consultation.

If your symptoms are severe, call 911 or seek emergency medical care immediately. Emergency warning signs for COVID-19 include:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Inability to wake or stay awake
  •  Bluish lips or face.
